DRIVE GENIUS 4 FOR MAC SOFTWARE
Please note, neither of these software tools will resurrect a Mac' that has suffered a hardware failure. I have therefore given Drive Genius top marks. I cannot decide which is better, Drive Genius or Diskwarrior, but in my experience both work remarkably well. In September 2014 I 'upgraded' to Drive Genius v.3.2.5 but it would not run on my machine, so I forgot about it. Not much use to me, so I forgot about it. My picks are either Drive Genius or DiskWarrior. Hopefully they will never be used but computer disasters do happen. In February 2012 I purchased Drive Genius 3.1.1 from Other World Computing. There are three leading drive utilities for macOS: DiskWarrior, TechTool Pro, and the newest, Drive Genius. Rather than attempting to boot a sick Mac' using its internal drive (mechanical or electronic), the Mac' is booted from the memory stick and the included diagnostic & repair routines bring the Mac' to perfect health, whereupon, the Mac' is restarted from its on drive.ĭrive Genus (or Diskwarrior) are not software tools that will be used a great deal. Unlike regular applications, each memory stick includes a mini version of OS X along with a suite of diagnostic & repair routines. Both are capable of restoring a seriously sick Mac' back to rude health. Last but not least, Drive Genius features advanced tools for resizing and moving of volumes without reformatting, and sports a sector-editing tool to modify the data on any sector of the drive - powerful features that will satisfy even the seasoned Mac experts.
Which is best, Diskwarrior or Drive Genius? I can only add that I have known and used Diskwarrior for longer than Drive Genius. Drive Genius can also hide partitions and duplicate volumes or drives swiftly. Drive Genius is very similar in function and presentation and it too is now available in memory stick form.
I own several MacBook Pros and my ultimate defence against disaster is Diskwarrior, which also comes on a memory stick.
